Legal Practitioner Director
LL.B, BBus (Man),
GradDipLP, LL.M
Nik is the founding Director of Koolik & Associates Lawyers and the firm’s ‘human engine room’. It was
Nik’s desire to help families through some of life’s most emotional challenges (separation, death and conveyancing) which
inspired him to start the firm a decade ago. His core kindness and compassion make him not only a good person but an even better family
lawyer.
Nik has over 12 years’ experience in the legal industry, holds a Master of Laws and is also a Nationally Accredited Mediator. This depth of expertise has developed strong skills in negotiating a resolution for clients, while simultaneously actually knowing what he’s talking about (this can be a rare commodity). His primary focus is to provide open communication with clients while taking as much stress as possible out of the legal process (Nik even has boxes of tissues and kilos of lollies strategically scattered throughout the office).
Nik takes his downtime almost as seriously as his work, and packs every second of spare time with activities that make him feel young again. Most people would put something hokey here, something about skiing or golf, but not Nik. He relishes Mexican food (the messier the better) spending time with his kids, and dragging his friends along to yet another superhero movie. Despite regularly pulling a hammy in the first 2 minutes of his touch footy games he never stops playing, and that says more about Nik than we ever could.
Partner
LL.B, GradDipLP, LL.M
Jess has practised almost exclusively in family law since becoming a lawyer and has also completed her Master of Laws. Don’t let her
youthful good* looks fool you, as Jess is a master at drafting affidavits, negotiating and owning the courtroom for our clients. These
skills, coupled with her compassion, unfaltering positivity and approachable nature make her one of the best family lawyers in Brisbane (
nay, the world!)* Despite her high standards, Jess doesn’t sweat the small stuff. She prides herself on really listening to her
clients’ needs and focusing on the bigger picture. For these reasons, she has recently become Partner at Koolik & Associates.
In her downtime, Jess likes to pretend she’s passionate about health and fitness. But those close to her know it’s only so she can enjoy her chocolate and sauv blanc with reckless disregard for the consequences. Her idea of unwinding involves watching documentaries and making significant charitable donations to her local Sephora and Mecca Maxima.
*Jess successfully argued for the inclusion of these descriptors.

Susie started her employment with our firm in 2019 as our conveyancing paralegal. Through her many years working in the legal and
conveyancing fields, including experience dealing with multi-million dollar contracts, she has amassed a wealth of knowledge and experience.
Susie understands that buying and/or selling can often be stressful, which is why she believes communication is the key. She ensures that all parties are kept up-to-date with the progress of their conveyance and is always available for her clients.
Susie’s positivity and bubbly enthusiasm is contagious takes the stress out of her clients’ matters. Her dedication and
commitment to her clients always ensures the conveyance is completed as smoothly as possible.
Receptionist / Administrative Assistant
Shinai has been with Koolik and Associates since 2015 when she took up the role as Director of First Impressions (aka. Reception). Not
satisfied with the difficulty of working full-time and balancing a full social calendar, in 2018 Shinai began studying a Bachelor of Laws
and moved into the role of paralegal (which is a fancy way of saying she gets to do all the hard work for none of the credit).
Don’t let her disarmingly cheery nature fool you, as behind the scenes Shinai is our resident sass-queen and nothing gets by her.
Shinai is ‘that person’ in the office who is always complaining the air conditioning is too cold, but we all still like her
anyway.
Receptionist / Paralegal
Rach joined Koolik and Associates in 2019 in the role of receptionist and paralegal, and brought with her 20 years of experience in the
legal industry.
Rach spent the first half of her career working for the Crown (aka. The public prosecutor) in New Zealand and has dealt with some of her homeland’s most notorious criminals. Her extensive criminal law experience really shows as Rach is completely unflappable and knows how to remain calm and collected to help clients through emotional situations.
And as if that wasn’t enough experience in high stakes conflict resolution, Rach is also the proud mother of award-winning teenage girls.
Rach is usually the first point of contact for clients and her helpful nature and cool-as-a—cucumber attitude can’t help but ease our clients’ stress. Talking to Rach is like meditating on a mountain in the sunshine surrounded by your favourite scented candles.
